IGA and La Tablée des Chefs work together to educate and feed Quebecers as part of The Joy of Eating Better

In May 2014, IGA made a strategic directional shift, unveiling The Joy of Eating Better, a movement which from that point on would guide everything they did. Within this context, the banner wished to be associated with and support organizations that shared their vision.

IGA has been the proud partner of La Tablée des Chefs since the fall of 2014. This Quebec organization has a mission to help feed families in need and provide culinary education to young people. It implements a host of culinary events where cooking school students and chefs come together to invest in their communities. This is how their collaboration comes to life, benefitting kitchen brigades and numerous public food events in various regions. They have already kicked off three distinct initiatives:

À vos frigos! workshops

In May 2015, with support from Fonds Éco IGA, Le Jour de la Terre Québec and La Tablée des Chefs announced the official launch of À vos frigos! workshops. In response to the growing reality of wasted food in Quebec homes, IGA merchants throughout the province committed to making their kitchens available to host a hundred culinary workshops for consumers in their communities.

MY HOMEMADE LUNCH pamphlet

For back-to-school 2016, IGA, in collaboration with the government of Quebec, presents My homemade lunch campaign, an initiative of La Tablée des Chefs who aim to increase awareness among Quebecers everywhere about the importance of cooking and focusing on their diet. La Tablée des Chefs’ mission is to help feed people in need and provide culinary education to our youth. This year, over 1,600 young people from 80 schools throughout Quebec will benefit from the culinary training program Les Brigades Culinaires, and more than 498,000 servings of food will be distributed to people experiencing food insecurity. Starting August 18th, you can encourage our youth to cook by donating $2 to La Tablée des Chefs at any IGA store throughout the province. The objective is to develop the culinary training program in over 200 schools by 2019! And, a pamphlet containing simple, savoury lunch recipes you can prepare, along with exclusive discounts on several products available in store will be given out to everyone.
