From 2010 to 2018, Fonds Éco IGA has distributed more than 115,500 ecological items to citizens, including 14,187 in total this year!

From April 19 to July 15, the Jour de la Terre team distributed ecological items to 219 IGA and IGA extra stores across Quebec and New Brunswick.

During the summer, drinking water is a precious resource that is often used when non-chlorinated or untreated water would do. Rainwater barrels help to save a considerable amount of drinking water by collecting rainwater to use for activities, such as gardening and outdoor cleaning.

Thanks to the 90,517 rainwater barrels distributed from 2010 to 2018, we were able to save more than 434 billion litres of water, which is equivalent to 115 Olympic pools!

*The official volume of an Olympic pool is 3,750 m³ (50 x 25 x 3).

Domestic compost bins collect your organic waste so that you can compost your table scraps and yard waste, and avoid sending a large amount of waste to the landfill or incinerator. You can also use the compost for gardening.

Thanks to the 24,548 domestic compost bins that were distributed to citizens from 2010 to 2018, 3,682,200 kilograms of organic waste has been diverted from the landfill and incinerator!

  • Each participating supermarket will receive 70 units to distribute (barrels and compost bins) at the reduced price of $30 each.
  • Instructions for barrel installation and how to compost will be given by the Fonds Éco IGA squad on distribution day.
  • To receive a barrel or compost bin, you must register online and indicate your choice. If more than 70 people register, a random draw will be held.
  • Limit of one registration per address.
  • The barrels and bins will be distributed at participating IGA supermarkets on a specific day and predetermined time period. If there is more than one IGA supermarket near you, be sure to choose the one where you want to pick up your barrel or bin, taking into account the distribution date that is most convenient for you.
