What is La Tablée des Chefs?

La Tablée des Chefs’ mission is to provide culinary training to young people in high school and youth centres. To date, more than 30,000 youths have benefitted from free culinary training thanks to various programs such as Kitchen Brigades and Cook Up Your Future. During these workshops, participants learn more about nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Why is IGA partnering with La Tablée des Chefs?

IGA has supported La Tablée des Chefs for the past 4 years. This partnership came about organically—a reflection of our shared M.O. to reduce food waste, coupled with IGA’s Food is Everything movement. We believe that conveying our culinary passion to the next generation is a priceless gift, one that will allow our youth to grow and learn how to maintain healthy lifestyles.

La Tablée des Chefs’ mission

Since its foundation in 2002, the organization has been dedicated to feeding those in need and encouraging the younger generations to pursue their culinary education.

“Our schools no longer teach basic cooking skills, and, unfortunately, some young people don’t learn these skills from their parents either. Food education is important because it teaches us to make better life choices, when it comes to our health as well as our finances. For us, social issues such as these really matter.”

30,000 jouths have benefitted from our training courses
Close to 150 high schools enrolled across Quebec
By 2023 we expect to have reached up to 200 Canadian schools

La Tablée des Chefs week: October 17 – 23

Over La Tablée des Chefs week, you can support the cause one of two ways: purchase one of the 300 specially marked items in store and 25¢ will be donated to La Tablée des Chefs, or make a donation right at the cash. These small actions have the potential to make a big difference in the lives of many.

Also throughout the week, La Tablée des Chefs’ youths will be present in store, offering up food samples, talking about the organization, and bagging groceries.

Finally, we will announce the grand total raised at La Grande Tablée, an event taking place on November 4, 2019. “Several business partners and representatives will be present at this event in support of La Tablée des Chefs. And everyone will have the chance to sample dishes prepared onsite by these young men and women and see just how talented they really are,” explains Carl Pichette, Vice-President of Marketing at Sobeys.
