Montreal, June 4, 2015 – Sobeys Québec is proud to announce that the flattened chicken in their line of Prêts-à-cuire du Boucher products was a finalist in the 2015 Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards held yesterday in Toronto. For the past 22 years, the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) has rewarded high quality, innovative consumer products at its annual awards gala.
Quebec chicken in all its culinary glory
Certified by Aliments du Québec, flattened chicken is one of the many products in the Butcher’s Own Ready-to-Cook line sold exclusively at IGA. Air-chilled and with no added water, this chicken stands out for its quality and easy preparation. Since it’s split open at the back, flattened, vacuum-packed, and pre-seasoned, all that’s left to do is throw it on the grill or pop it in the oven.
For double the dining pleasure, it comes in two flavours: Achari Tikka and Spicy Portuguese. The first is seasoned with Indian spices and lemony notes of cumin, ginger, and cayenne pepper. The second is packed with signature Portuguese flavours, with tender juicy meat spiced up with paprika.
“We are pleased to have had another opportunity to promote our store brand flattened chicken certified by Aliments du Québec. We strive to spread the joy of eating better to all Quebecers by introducing them to new flavours and promoting local products,” said Gabrielle Gingras, Director of commercial programs and private labels at Sobeys Québec.
1st anniversary of The Joy of Eating Better movement
A year ago Sobeys Québec wanted to find a way to put its food expertise to work to counter increasing obesity rates. That’s what prompted it to create this new movement, which is based on four main principles (cooking, exploring, making responsible choices, and healthy eating) designed to help people take joy in eating better. The flattened chicken is a perfect example of what this initiative can achieve.
Sobeys Québec thanks its employees and suppliers and is happy to offer its customers high-quality local products for meals that are quick and easy to prepare, healthier, and, of course, a joy to eat.
IGA is the largest group of independent grocers in Canada and has been established in Quebec since 1953. Its 285 IGA merchants are constantly seeking new ways to better serve their customers. The banner includes IGA, IGA extra, IGA express, and IGA mini, and IGA is the only group of food retailers to offer customers the opportunity to collect AIR MILES® reward miles.
