125 ml (1/2 cup) milk

45 ml (3 tbsp.) maple syrup

2 eggs

30 ml (2 tbsp) butter

4 slices bread

2 ml (1/2 tsp.) vanilla extract


  1. Whisk together the milk, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl.
  2. Soak bread slices one at a time in egg mixture until well coated. Let each slice stand for 1 minute.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add half the butter to melt. Lay two slices of bread at a time in skillet. Fry slices for about 2 minutes per side. Place French toast on a baking sheet in a 95 °C (200 °F) oven while cooking remaining slices.
  4. Serve French toast with fruit and maple syrup.

Chef's secret

Use leftover baguette or crusty bread; it will become moist again after absorbing the egg mixture.

To make the Teddy bear: cut banana slices to make the ears and snout. Use blueberries or raisins for the eyes and nose.
